Wim Naudé ist als Gastprofessor für Technologie, Unternehmertum und Entwicklung Teil der TIME Research Area an der RWTH Aachen. Er ist außerdem Professor für Wirtschaftswissenschaften an der Cork University Business School, University College Cork in Irland, Distinguished Visiting Professor an der University of Johannesburg, Südafrika, Fellow des Africa Study Centre an der Universität Leiden, Niederlande, Research Fellow am IZA (Institut zur Zukunft der Arbeit), Deutschland.

Derzeit arbeitet er an drei miteinander verbundenen Themen: die Auswirkungen von künstlicher Intelligenz auf Unternehmen, Innovation, Wirtschaftswachstum und Sicherheit; der Rückgang der Unternehmensdynamik im Westen; und die Folgen der 4. industriellen Revolution für eine inklusive und nachhaltige Entwicklung, auch für das Wachstum in Afrika und die Kreislaufwirtschaft. An der RWTH Aachen trägt er zur Forschungsagenda der Hochschule zu diesen Themen bei und unterrichtet das Modul "Technology for a Sustainable Tomorrow" im MBA der RWTH Business School.

Wim hat zur Arbeit praktisch aller globalen Entwicklungsorganisationen beigetragen, zuletzt zum Weltjugendbericht 2020 der Vereinten Nationen über soziales Unternehmertum von Jugendlichen, zum Welthandelsbericht 2018 der Welthandelsorganisation (WTO) darüber, wie digitale Technologien den globalen Handel verändern, und zum Leitbericht 2016 der UNIDO über nachhaltige Industrialisierung. Darüber hinaus arbeitet er am KI-Observatorium der OECD mit und war Co-Leiter eines Forschungsprojekts für das Programm "Künstliche Intelligenz und die Gesellschaft der Zukunft" der Volkswagen Stiftung.

Laut IDEAS/RePEC gehört Wim zu den 20 besten Wirtschaftswissenschaftlern weltweit im Bereich Big Data und zu den 40 besten weltweit im Bereich Entrepreneurship.
