Christian Hopp studierte Betriebswirtschaftslehre in Deutschland, den Niederlanden und den USA. Seine Promotion (Dr. rer. Pol.) in Quantitativer Ökonomie und Finanzen führte er an der Universität Konstanz durch. Sein Masterstudium in Betriebswirtschaft absolvierte er an der Universität Pittsburgh (MBA) sowie an der Rotterdam School of Management (Master in Financial Management).

Vor seiner Berufung nach Aachen war er Assistenz Professor an der Universität Wien. Seine Forschungsinteressen liegen vornehmlich in den Bereichen Gründungsmanagement, Gründungsfinanzierung und Personalökonomie.
