Investment in R&D and novel (information) technologies constitutes an important form of organizational search. Building on institutional and behavioral arguments, this research project seeks to identify some of the triggers of innovative and technological search. Among others, we conceptualize and examine R&D and technology investments as forms of institutional, mimetic, problemistic and slack search. In so doing, we attempt to shed light on some of the key processes that shape organizational decision-making and drive - or impede - firm investment in R&D and technology.
