AI-based product development: AI in the innovation process to identify product ideas for emerging technologies

For the transfer of new technologies from research to product applications, innovative product ideas create bridges between basic research and industry. AI shows great potential for use in the innovation process in the area of idea generation and creativity. This thesis will test and evaluate how suitable AI is for use in identifying new application opportunities for an emerging technology.

In the scope of this work, potential product applications for a new biotechnology will be identified and evaluated based on GPT-3 or other transformer-based machine learning models. Based on this, the suitability of AI for this step in the innovation process will be evaluated and a framework for using AI to identify new products will be developed.
