Marie Skłodowska Curie Initial Training Networks – ITN
Research-Related Training for Early-Stage Researchers
Innovative Training Networks, ITN for short, support the structured training of young early-stage researchers, particularly doctoral candidates, with networks made up of multiple European institutions within an international, interdisciplinary, and intersectoral research area.
With the ITNs, the EU provides funding to research teams with a recognized international format, which are pursuing top, multi-national collaborative research projects with partners both in and outside of academia.
Objectives
The Marie Skłodowska Curie measures are open to all disciplines and fund projects from fundamental research to market development. The primary objective is to interlock research activities with the implementation of a structured training program for outstanding doctoral candidates in the underlying research area. The early-career researchers both within the ITN and outside of a network can be from any country of origin.
The networks also aim to bring together a critical mass of qualified researchers in highly specialized or fragemented disciplines and to contribute to overcoming institutional and disciplinary boundaries. This is achieved, for example, by funding multidisciplinary research.
The aim is the establishment of an industry-oriented approach and the resulting strengthened collaboration between university and industry research.
Participating Researchers
In the ITN funding is exclusively reserved for early stage researchers. These are junior researchers without a doctorate who have less than four years research experience.
Other Marie Skłodowska Curie Measures
Further and continued training of so-called experienced researchers – that is researchers with more than four years of research experience and a doctorate – is promoted in other Marie Skłodowska Curie measures and in so-called Individual Fellowships, IF for short. Funding for the so-called Research and Innovation Staff Exchange, RISE for short, promotes the exchange of personnel between science and the non-academic sector. COFUND, however, offers co-financing for fellowship programs for postdocs as well as doctoral programs within Horizon 2020.
The tables below offer an overview of all current and past Marie Skłodowska Curie measures at RWTH and the UKA.
Opportunities for Early-stage Researchers
Apart from the main target group of early career researchers, it is also possible to involve and train postdocs with first experiences in independent research.
