Abstract

Since business environment is dynamic, the acqusition of up-to-date information is getting increasingly important. The WWW provides that information, but the problem with WWW information is that users are flooded with information and their information need is not supplied. Search machines only scrawl the WWW buzzword-based - but buzzwords cannot express the meaning of the information need. In order to meet the users’ information need properly, background knowledge, that is often latent or implicit, has to be elicited. But how can latent knowledege be elicited? Cognitive Psychology provides many methods for the elicitation of latent knowledge. These methods will be evaluated considering effectiveness and efficiency criteria. Suitable methods will be used to elicit users’ latent knowledge in order to use the elicited knowledge for WWW-based queries. By using latent knowledge for internet-based information acquisition the following hypothesis will be analyzed: By using methodically elicited latent knowledge for the internet-based knowledge acqusition of task-specific information search results will be more useful than the results of a "common" search engine that does not consider methodically elicited knowledge.
