Finding new application fields for existing technologies - A text-mining based patent analysis approach

"Solution in Search of a Problem" - finding applications for technologies for the first time or finding further fields of application for established technologies is a highly relevant problem. This concerns startups as well as established companies and also the technology transfer from basic research. Text mining based approaches offer completely new solutions for this problem, for example by extracting possible applications from patent databases.

The focus of this thesis is the analysis and optimization of existing approaches as well as the application of the analysis to selected technologies in biotechnology.
