An Empirical Investigation into Firms’ Staged Implementation Processes of Open Innovation

Many firms’ face the challenge of how to implement open innovation strategies successfully. According to the current literature, open innovation implies opening up innovation process both internally and externally to integrate different knowledge partners and sources. At the same time, open innovation requires to build up capabilities that support the integration of partners in open innovation initiatives. This thesis should systematically review the existing literature on open innovation implementation, i.e. what kinds of openness and necessary capabilities are suggested. Based on an existing data set on staged implementation approaches of more than 800 organizations’, implementation patterns should be identified using regression and cluster analyses. For this thesis it is not neccessary to have already a strong statistical background
